Skiing Cape Town

Written by Dave Wilkinson

When most people think of Cape Town, the last word that comes to mind is skiing. But what if I told you that right in the heart of South Africa’s “mother city” are a dozen ski slopes? While Cape Town is no “Mecca” for skiing, there are two places worth mentioning.

Number One. The first place worth mentioning is Victorskloof in Hout Bay. This pristine pine forest is safe, silent and in the shade all day. Perfect for beginners and intermediate riders, it is a perfect spot. For more information, including directions, click here.

Number Two. The second slope worth mentioning is not a forest, but a downhill mountain bike track. Above Camps bay is a small area of land known as “The Glen.” This secret spot is relatively untouched and boasts spectacular views of Table Mountain and the ocean. I must add though, that this slope is not for the faint hearted because a fall almost always results a bruise. However if it is speed you want and fantastic bumps to get some air, then this place is for you. For more information, including directions, click here.
